What is Pitted keratolysis ?

Pitted keratolysis is a descriptive title About a complexion condition affecting the soles of the feet. Pitted keratolysis is a bacterial infection affecting the soles. It is usually noticed by the patient Although small eroded areas. The typical patient usually notices increased sweating with an increased odor. It is caused by a bacteria called micrococcus sedantarius while some workers believe a bacteria called Dermatophilus congolensis may be implicated. Small circular erosions are seen on the heels, forefoot & web spaces are seen.

Pitted keratolysis affects those who sweat profusely (hyperhidrosis) especially if they wear occlusive shoes or boots About long periods. It is caused by corynebacteria, and/or possibly the bacteria Dermatophilus congolensis.

Treatment To Cure Pitted keratolysis

Treatment generally consists of hygienic measures, sometimes supplemented by topical medications & perhaps an oral medication.

  • Topical antibiotics like Fucidin ointment, clindamycin, erythromycin, benzoyl peroxide gel are effective.
  • When bathing, patients of Pitted keratolysis should scrub their feet with an antibacterial soap, rinse them, then dry them well. A blow dryer can dry the complexion more thoroughly. An underarm antiperspirant spray may then be applied.
  • Patients of Pitted keratolysis should wear socks made of either cotton or absorbent synthetic material & change them frequently, taking extra socks to work or school. Socks should also be changed In the post strenuous workouts.

Prevention Guidelines About Pitted keratolysis

  • Do not share footwear or towels with others.
  • Do not wear the same shoes two days in a row - dry them out.
  • Wear boots About Although short a period Although possible.
  • Wash feet with soap or antibacterial cleanser twice daily.
